3 Reasons Church Production Teams Burn Out

Ministry burnout in the church doesn’t only affect the pastors and leaders. The bigger phenomenon is that church media teams are burnout magnets! What causes this, and what can be done? Read more about these three common reasons church production teams are likely to burn out.

#1: Too few people are responsible for too much of the work.

The Trellis method: Simplify and delegate.

Divide the work into smaller, separate roles. Then recruit and train more people to create a serving rotation. This way, volunteers (and even media staff!) can regularly have a Sunday off to worship and receive along with the rest of the Body.

Enforcing a rhythm of serving and receiving is biblical and sustainable for your teams.

#2: The pastor is just overflowing with great ideas! However, the team is still trying to finish the ideas you overflowed with last time.

The Trellis method: Count the costs before building.

Make an Hours Budget to accurately understand the production process and to estimate how long it takes for your team to shepherd an idea from green light to launch.

Budgets and other project management tools reveal whether more resources can be delegated to this idea, or whether other initiatives need to take priority this season.

#3: A large percentage of the work is not necessary.

The Trellis method: Use discernment to work smarter, not harder.

Just because the church across town (or the one showing up in your social media feed) is creating it, doesn't make it strategic or appropriate for your church to do likewise.

Most likely, you already spend time in prayer with your leadership team to seek the Holy Spirit’s direction for your church and ministry. This revelation from the Spirit needs to trickle down as wise direction at the project level. Confidently make decisions to green light those initiatives that will produce the fruit appointed for your church, and submit the rest of the ideas to God’s perfect timing.

At Trellis Creative Strategies, we believe that wise stewardship of ideas, people, and resources happens by design. Building stewardship into the structure that supports a church’s media operations is the key to flourishing in the post-pandemic era. Book your free consultation with us. We would love to understand your church's unique context and mission.
